Description
A sticky, sweet, and smoky appetizer made with cocktail wieners, BBQ sauce, and pineapple. This slow cooker recipe is the ultimate hands-off game day crowd-pleaser that requires minimal effort but delivers maximum flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Little Smokies (cocktail wieners)
- 1 bottle (18 oz) BBQ sauce
- 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dried mustard powder
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, if sauce isn’t sweet enough)
- Optional: ½ cup cooked bacon bits, 2 tablespoons sliced jalapeños, 1 small diced onion
Instructions
- Drain the canned pineapple chunks, removing the heavy syrup but keeping the fruit.
- Turn the slow cooker to LOW setting.
- Add the Little Smokies to the slow cooker pot.
- Pour the BBQ sauce over the smokies.
- Add the drained pineapple chunks, apple cider vinegar, and mustard powder.
- Add optional ingredients like brown sugar, jalapeños, or bacon bits if desired.
- Stir gently to coat the smokies evenly without crushing them.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 2 to 4 hours (or HIGH for 1-2 hours if in a rush).
- Stir halfway through cooking to ensure even coating as smokies may float.
- About 30 minutes before serving, stir again. If sauce is too thin, uncover to reduce; if too thick, add a splash of water or BBQ sauce.
- Serve immediately with toothpicks or napkins.
Notes
Cook on LOW for best texture to prevent burning sugars. Stir halfway through to coat floating smokies. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat in a skillet with a splash of liquid to prevent burning. Do not freeze as texture may suffer.
