Description
A bright, tangy, and refreshing summer drink made with fresh blackberries, mint, and lemons. This easy-to-make lemonade is ready in minutes and serves as a perfect crowd-pleasing beverage for hot days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh blackberries (300g)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 1 cup water (240ml)
- 6 medium fresh lemons (about 1 cup juice)
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves (30g)
- Ice (large cubes preferred)
- 4 cups cold water
- 1–2 cups sparkling water (optional)
Instructions
- Combine blackberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water in a medium saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat, muddling berries gently to release juice, and simmer for 5 minutes until syrup is dark purple and fragrant.
- Remove from heat and let the syrup cool completely.
- Tear mint leaves slightly and place them in the bottom of a large pitcher; gently muddle to release oils without shredding.
- Squeeze lemons to yield 1 cup of fresh juice, straining to remove seeds and pulp.
- Pour the cooled blackberry syrup into the pitcher with the mint.
- Add the fresh lemon juice and stir well.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed.
- Stir in 4 cups of cold water to dilute.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
- Serve over ice, garnished with mint and blackberries. Add sparkling water just before serving if desired.
Notes
Ensure the blackberry syrup cools completely before mixing to prevent melting the ice and diluting the drink. Do not over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness. Fresh lemons are essential for the best flavor; bottled juice tastes metallic. The drink can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days without ice.
